Well, we only offer white tooth colored fillings in the practice. I haven't done a silver amalgam filling in probably over about 15 years. I'm sure a lot of people are aware of some of the controversies out there with silver amalgam fillings, and the concerns with mercury. There's a lot of evidence pointing that it's probably not a problem, but the easy solution really in this day and age is that the white filling materials are better, they're stronger, they tend to last longer, they don't wear as rapidly and they don't create some of the cracks and other problems that the older silver amalgam fillings actually created in teeth. I think that in this day and age, since the composite materials we have available are excellent, they're adhesive, they seal and bond to the tooth better, they have better mechanical properties, and there isn't the controversy over them with the mercury. It's just a better choice, and most people would prefer to have white fillings over silver fillings.

Our Tooth Filling Process
To determine whether you need a tooth filling or not, we will assess your current situation using advanced dental technology, like our digital X-rays and intraoral cameras, both of which produce clear images of your teeth.
Once we have determined that you are in need of tooth fillings, we will:
- Numb the area so you won’t feel a thing
- Remove the parts of your tooth that have been damaged by tooth decay
- Repair your tooth with a composite material that is color-matched to the rest of your smile so no one will know you’ve had a filling done
If you happen to be a little nervous, our Fort Myers and Naples, FL office can also help relieve dental anxiety with dental sedation options!
The Importance Of Filling Cavities
A cavity isn’t just a mild inconvenience. Left unchecked, tooth decay can eat away at your enamel until it gets inside your tooth, where it can infect the soft tissue and nerves (pulp) within. By acting fast, we can help you avoid the need for a root canal or even a tooth extraction!
To prevent your cavities and other issues from becoming a larger problem, visit us as soon as possible when you are experiencing tooth pain.
