Sinus Lifts Explained
In many instances, your sinus membrane is low enough that it must be “lifted” out of the way prior to having dental implants placed in the back portion of your upper jaw.
This issue may also arise or be further complicated by bone loss following a tooth extraction – with enough bone deterioration, you may not have a strong enough foundation to place dental implants without damaging the sinuses.
The Sinus Lift Process
To determine if you need a sinus lift prior to a dental implant procedure, we will use cutting-edge dental technology to assess the size and location of your sinus membrane, as well as the thickness of your jaw. Here are some of the innovative tools we’ll use:
- 3D cone beam CT scanners
- Digital X-rays
Once we have verified you are a good candidate for a sinus lift, we will:
- Make a small incision above your missing tooth to get to your sinus membrane
- Gently push your sinus membrane out of the way
- Ensure your sinus membrane stays in place with a bone graft
Following a healing period, we will then place your dental implants and tooth restorations!
To ensure your optimum comfort, we will numb the area before we begin. If you are nervous, we can also help relieve your dental anxiety with dental sedation options!
