Why A Bone Graft May Be Necessary
If you are missing a tooth, you should replace it as soon as possible for multiple reasons. Not only will a missing tooth impair your chewing ability, it can also lead to bone degeneration in your jaw, further compromising your oral function and youthful appearance.
To prevent jawbone deterioration, you should have a tooth replaced as soon as it gets knocked out or is removed with a tooth extraction.
If you have lost jawbone tissue, we can perform a bone graft treatment to thicken your jaw to provide a strong foundation for dental implants so you can regain your strong, confident bite!
What To Expect During A Bone Graft
Before we perform bone grafts, we will evaluate your jaw using digital X-rays and our state-of-the-art 3D cone beam CT scanner at Fort Myers, FL and Naples, FL offices. If we decide you could benefit from a bone graft, we will:
- Numb the area with anesthetic, if necessary
- Place bone tissue in the affected area, to spur new bone growth
Following a healing and growth period, we can then place your dental implants and attach a variety of restorations, including:
To further increase your comfort during your visit, we can also administer dental sedation options to relieve your dental anxiety!
Dr. Hoop has been in private practice in the Fort Myers, FL area since 1991 and Naples, FL since 2000. He was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society after his graduation in 1986 at Emory University School of Dentistry.
