The question about whether or not we can get oral surgical procedures covered by a medical insurance is an interesting one.
Oftentimes, what we find is that many procedures, whether it's implant surgery or tooth extractions, are not gonna be covered by most people's medical insurance plans.
Occasionally, we can get some portion of larger procedures like some of the more complex implant surgeries covered, but that has to be handled on an individual basis. It all depends upon the plans.
The good news is that there are many options to cover the cost of procedures nowadays. We have financing programs through a number of different companies that can help patients defer the cost of the treatment. If they actually want to do something, generally we tell them, “Decide on what you want first, then let's find a way to help you afford the treatment.”
We also have a program here in the office called Direct Dental Savings, which is a membership program directly through us that can save people anywhere from 20 to 30 percent off almost all of their dental treatment, and it doesn't have any limitations like typical dental insurance.
One of the things that many people don't realize when they get dental insurance is it has a lot of limitations that they're not used to seeing in their medical plans. One of the things we run into is when people have big procedures, they have an annual maximum benefit on their dental insurance, which oftentimes runs out before the procedure's paid for, or really even reimbursed or covered significantly.
We can frequently show people that plans like the Direct Dental Savings actually in the long run will save them much more money than dental insurance.
