Well, I think the career in Dentistry came to me naturally. I'm actually third generation, fifth dentist in my family, my father's family. My grandfather and two of his brothers were dentists and an uncle of mine was a dentist. I was exposed to it fairly early. I've always enjoyed working with my hands. I've always enjoyed doing woodwork and building things. I've always enjoyed the sciences and I think between family history and my interests it just seemed to be a perfect career path for me.
Dr. George Hoop comes from a family of dentists – he’s the fifth in three generations! He grew up in south Florida in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area, went to Northwestern University for two years, then transferred to Emory University to finish his bachelor’s degree in economics.
Dr. Hoop then went on to graduate from the Emory University School of Dentistry in 1986 with high honors, ranking second in a class of 87 students. While completing his studies, he received two scholarship awards based on his academic performance, in addition to other awards for academic excellence and his outstanding grasp of dental anatomy.
Upon graduation, Dr. Hoop was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society. He then continued at the Emory University School of Postgraduate Dentistry as a research fellow in periodontics, completing a periodontal specialty residency in 1989. From there, he worked for several dentists out of several different offices providing periodontal care to patients.
In addition to his specialty degree in periodontics, Dr. Hoop has completed a 20-month course in dental implants at the renowned Misch Implant Institute, plus extensive continuing education courses with the world-renowned L.D. Dr. Hoop has been in private practice in the Fort Myers, FL area since 1991 and Naples, FL since 2000. One of the most rewarding parts of his job is seeing the smile on his patients’ faces after they have undergone a particularly complex cosmetic or restorative transformation.
